NHL Playoffs Daily Picks- May 1, 2024

Tuesday’s Recap:

We had four elimination games last night and two teams bowed out of the playoffs. The Carolina Hurricanes blew a 3-1 lead only to score a flurry of goals to open the third period and put the Islanders away for good. Seth Jarvis had a goal and two assists for Carolina, who will face the Rangers in what should be a great series in the second round. The Avalanche got a huge night from Mikko Rantanen who scored two goals and had an assist in the dominating win for Colorado, who shut down the potent Jets offense the last four games of the series after giving up 7 goals in the opening game. Colorado awaits the winner of the series between the Dallas Stars and Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Two teams though decided to keep fighting for their postseason glory, as the Maple Leafs and goaltender Joseph Woll won a huge road game in a hostile environment to make the series with Boston 3-2 heading back to Toronto. Woll stopped 27 of 28 shots until Matthew Knies scored his second goal of the playoffs in overtime to give the Maple Leafs the 2-1 win. In the last game, we expected a low scoring game and got one again as the Predators won 2-1 on the road in Vancouver, thanks to two goals in a span of six minutes midway in the third period.

Favorites went 1-2 last night with the Jets and Avalanche game again closing around even. Totals landed at 2-2 O/U for Tuesday night. The biggest dog to win last night were the Maple Leafs at +146 road dogs. Home teams are now 16-21 SU, while totals are 19-17-1 O/U for the playoffs. Favorites are now 22-13 SU, while home favorites are 13-11 SU. Dogs at +140 or more for the playoffs are 4-12 SU.
